Asterisk

Accessibility

How we work to make this website usable by everyone, what isn’t there yet, and how to tell us.

1. Our commitment

We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, a magnifier, voice control, a small screen or a slow connection. We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

2. What we do

These are built into how the site works:

  • Pages use proper headings, landmarks and links, so they can be read and navigated by structure.
  • There is a “Skip to content” link at the top of every page, and the site can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • The site respects the “reduce motion” setting on your device. With it on, animation is replaced by a still version of the same content.
  • Text is set at a readable size on any screen, the colours are chosen for strong contrast, and pages reflow to a narrow screen without sideways scrolling.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology.
  • The page language is set, and the content of each page is in the page itself, not assembled by scripts.

3. What is not there yet

We would rather say plainly where we fall short:

  • The interactive examples (the plot finder, the agent conversation, the project timeline, the web-or-mobile chooser and the comparison slider) have keyboard support, but we haven’t tested all of them with every screen reader. Some of their animation is decorative and may be noisy for some people.
  • Some images are placeholders that describe what will go there. They will get proper text alternatives when the real pictures are added.
  • We have not yet had the site independently audited.
  • Third-party services we link to, such as Cal.com and WhatsApp, have their own accessibility, which we don’t control.

4. Tell us about a problem

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, tell us at hello@asterisk.co.ke: what you were trying to do, the page, and the device or assistive technology you use if you can. We will look into it and put it right as quickly as we can, and we can give you the information in another form if that helps.

5. If you are not satisfied

If you contact us and feel that we haven’t dealt with your concern properly, tell us, and we will review it again. In Kenya you can also raise it with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

6. About this statement

This statement describes the site as it is on the date above. We will update it as we test, fix and add things.
